Passage of he Frank R Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act
revises the Toxic Substances Control Act. The passage of this bill now
gives the EPA the ability to prioritize asbestos regulations and action.
The EPA can prohibit, restrict the manufacture, processing, use, distribution,
or disposal of a toxic chemicals or substances. If that chemical or substance
cannot likely meet the safety standard, then the EPA can impose restrictions
up to and including a ban or phase out of the chemical or substance.
Moreover, the Frank R Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act
empowers the EPA to prevent industy from hiding information on their use
of toxic substances from the public scrutiny, as well as, holding industry
accountable for any harm or negligence.
