Indiana Supreme Court Extends Deadline To Resume Jury Trials

On May 13, the Indiana Supreme Court issued the latest in a series of orders addressing the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Supreme Court’s orders have given trial courts broad powers to delay hearings and extend deadlines. These orders have also established a statewide ban on jury trials, with the most recent order stating that no civil jury trials shall be held before July 1, 2020.

Although jury trials are being delayed, the attorneys at George & Farinas remain hard at work on your cases. Both the Supreme Court and trial court judges around the State have expressed a strong desire for the practice of law to continue as much as possible during social distancing.

Many hearings, depositions, and meetings are now being conducted by phone or video conferencing, and most filings can be accomplished through the state’s electronic filing system.

Clients wanting an update about their case should feel free to call us, our phone lines remain open, and messages left on our answering system will be promptly returned.
