Drug Cases Our Firm Can Help With
There are numerous dangerous drugs on the market, and at George & Farinas, LLP, we deal with cases for Zofran, Accutane, Actos, and Pradaxa. If you have become ill, or were injured as a direct result of taking one of these drugs, you may have a case.
Zofran: Typically prescribed as a nausea treatment following surgery or for cancer patients, Zofran has been linked to serious birth defects. Zofran is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, and was at one time a top-selling drug in the United States. It has since been linked to serious birth injuries including heart defects, cleft lip, cleft palate, fetal growth restriction, jaundice, kidney defects, and death.
- Accutane: Accutane was produced by Hoffman-LaRoche, but has since been taken off the market after serious side effects were reported. Prescribed for severe acne, it was linked to birth defects, Crohn’s disease, and even suicide.
- Actos: Prescribed for the treatment of Type II Diabetes, Actos was reviewed by the FDA as a possible cause of bladder cancer. Studies showed that use of Actus increased the risk of developing bladder cancer if the patient took the drug for at least 1 year. It was also linked to other serious health issues, like heart and liver diseases, congestive heart failure, liver conditions, and bone fractures. Due to adverse results of medical studies, both France and Germany have suspended the use of Actos.
- Pradaxa: Manufactured and sold by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc., Pradaxa was formulated as a blood thinner fore stroke prevention associated with patients suffering from atrial fibrillation. However, the drug has recently been known to cause uncontrollable and excessive bleeding, only treatable by emergency treatment where the drug is removed from the person’s bloodstream.
Understanding Your Legal Rights
It is the responsibility of the drug manufacturer to adequately test a drug for safety, and to see that all potential side effects are clearly listed on a warning label. If a company purposely hides evidence of a harmful side effect, or knowingly produces and sells a dangerous drug, they are responsible for the damages that drug causes. Likewise, failing to warn doctors and patients of known warnings is equally unlawful.
When Should I Contact an Attorney?
It’s never too soon to reach out to an attorney if you have become ill or were injured as a direct result of use of one of the above drugs. In accordance with Indiana’s statute of limitations for personal injury cases, you have two years from the date of injury to file a claim against a drug manufacturer. Dangerous drug cases can be complex, however, and determining the date of injury can make a difference in your case. By placing your trust in the experienced attorneys at George & Farinas, our team can walk you through each step of the process and help explore your options for compensation.
